Description

Strawberries & Cream French Toast Casserole is a make-ahead breakfast bake with layers of fluffy bread, sweet cream cheese, juicy strawberries, and a rich egg custard—perfect for brunch, holidays, or a cozy weekend morning.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 loaf (about 14 oz) French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced (plus extra for topping)
  • 6 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: whipped cream and powdered sugar, for serving

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread half of the cubed bread in the dish and top with half the sliced strawberries.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Drop spoonfuls over the bread and berries.
  3. Top with remaining bread and strawberries.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, and salt. Pour evenly over the casserole, pressing down slightly to soak the bread.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and center is set.
  7. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Top with additional strawberries, powdered sugar, and whipped cream if desired.

Notes

  • Use slightly stale bread for best texture and absorption.
  • You can substitute frozen strawberries—just thaw and drain first.
  • Make ahead and refrigerate overnight for a no-fuss morning bake.
