Scale
- 1 loaf (about 14 oz) French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced (plus extra for topping)
- 6 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 6 large eggs
- 1 3/4 cups milk
- 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Optional: whipped cream and powdered sugar, for serving
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread half of the cubed bread in the dish and top with half the sliced strawberries.
- In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Drop spoonfuls over the bread and berries.
- Top with remaining bread and strawberries.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, and salt. Pour evenly over the casserole, pressing down slightly to soak the bread.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and center is set.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Top with additional strawberries, powdered sugar, and whipped cream if desired.
Notes
- Use slightly stale bread for best texture and absorption.
- You can substitute frozen strawberries—just thaw and drain first.
- Make ahead and refrigerate overnight for a no-fuss morning bake.
