1 cup white sugar
2 eggs

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs and vanilla.
Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually blend this into the creamed mixture.
Chill Dough: Cover the dough and chill for at least one hour (or overnight).
Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Roll and Cut Dough: On a floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter.
Bake: Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 6 to 8 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are barely brown.
