Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Waffles

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Burger

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese (or American cheese)
  • 8 slices crispy bacon
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for cooking burgers)

Toppings (Optional but Recommended!)

  • Fried egg 🍳
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Caramelized onions

Instructions

Make the Waffles

  1. Preheat a waffle maker and grease it lightly.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined (don’t overmix).
  5. Cook the batter in the waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions until golden brown. Set aside and keep warm.

Cook the Bacon

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Drain on a paper towel and drizzle with 1 tablespoon of maple syrup. Set aside.

Make the Burger Patties

  1. In a bowl, mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Form into 2 or 4 equal patties.
  2. Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat and melt 1 tablespoon butter.
  3. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side, or until desired doneness. In the last minute of cooking, top each patty with cheddar cheese and let it melt.

Assemble the Waffle Burger

  1. Place a waffle on a plate and top with a cheeseburger patty.
  2. Add crispy maple bacon and any extra toppings (fried egg, lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions).
  3. Drizzle with extra maple syrup and top with another waffle.
  4. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Swap ground beef for sausage patties for a more breakfast-style burger.
  • Use store-bought waffles if you’re short on time.
  • A fried egg takes this to the next level! 🍳
  • Serve with sweet potato fries or hash browns on the side.
