Description

Hawaiian Roll French Toast takes the classic breakfast favorite to a new level with the soft, sweet rolls soaked in a rich custard and cooked to golden perfection. Perfect for brunch or a special morning treat!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 12 Hawaiian rolls (or 1 package)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for cooking)
  • Optional toppings: powdered sugar, maple syrup, fresh berries, whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare the custard:

    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  2. Soak the rolls:

    • Separate the Hawaiian rolls but keep them intact at the base if you prefer pull-apart-style French toast.
    • Dip each roll (or the entire group) into the custard mixture, ensuring they’re fully coated but not soggy.
  3. Cook the French toast:

    • Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter.
    • Place the soaked rolls onto the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown and slightly crisp. Work in batches if needed, adding more butter as required.
  4. Serve:

    • Transfer the French toast to a serving plate and top with powdered sugar, maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream as desired.

Notes

  • For extra indulgence, drizzle with caramel sauce or serve with a dollop of cream cheese frosting.
  • Hawaiian rolls can also be sliced in half horizontally for even soaking and cooking.
