Description

Easy Creamed Peas are a classic side dish made with tender green peas in a creamy, buttery white sauce. Perfect for holidays or weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 cups frozen green peas
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the frozen peas according to package directions or boil in a saucepan until tender, about 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, to form a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream until smooth.
  5. Cook, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder if using.
  7. Stir in the cooked peas and heat through, about 2 minutes.
  8. Serve warm as a side dish.

Notes

  • For a richer sauce, use all heavy cream instead of milk.
  • Fresh peas can be used if in season—boil until tender before adding.
  • Add chopped cooked bacon or sautéed onions for extra flavor.
