Description
Crispy, golden homemade churros rolled in cinnamon sugar and served with a rich chocolate dipping sauce. A classic Spanish and Mexican treat that’s fun and easy to make at home.

- 1 cup water
- 2 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine water, sugar, salt, and butter. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
- Stir in the flour until a ball of dough forms. Let cool for 5 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
- Heat about 2 inches of oil in a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Pipe 4- to 6-inch strips of dough directly into the oil, cutting with scissors. Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Remove churros with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl. Roll warm churros in cinnamon sugar until coated.
- Serve immediately with chocolate sauce, if desired.
Notes
- Don’t overcrowd the oil; fry in batches for best results.
- Keep oil at a steady 350°F for crispy churros.
- Serve with chocolate sauce, caramel, or dulce de leche for dipping.
