- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 4 slices of ham
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons melted butter or cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Pound chicken breasts to an even 1/2 inch thickness.
- Place one slice of ham and one slice of cheese on each chicken breast. Roll tightly and secure with toothpicks.
- In three shallow bowls, place flour, beaten eggs mixed with Dijon mustard, and a mix of breadcrumbs with Parmesan, salt, and pepper.
- Dredge each chicken roll first in flour, then egg, then breadcrumb mixture.
- Place chicken on the prepared baking sheet and drizzle with melted butter or spray with cooking spray.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Remove toothpicks before slicing.
Notes
- You can prepare the chicken rolls in advance and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking.
- For extra crispiness, broil for the last 1–2 minutes of baking.
- Substitute Swiss with Gruyère or provolone for a flavor twist.
- Serve with a creamy mustard or white sauce for extra richness.
