Description

Classic Chicken Cordon Bleu features tender chicken breasts rolled with ham and Swiss cheese, coated in breadcrumbs, and baked until golden and crispy.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices of ham
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter or cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Pound chicken breasts to an even 1/2 inch thickness.
  3. Place one slice of ham and one slice of cheese on each chicken breast. Roll tightly and secure with toothpicks.
  4. In three shallow bowls, place flour, beaten eggs mixed with Dijon mustard, and a mix of breadcrumbs with Parmesan, salt, and pepper.
  5. Dredge each chicken roll first in flour, then egg, then breadcrumb mixture.
  6. Place chicken on the prepared baking sheet and drizzle with melted butter or spray with cooking spray.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  8. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Remove toothpicks before slicing.

Notes

  • You can prepare the chicken rolls in advance and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • For extra crispiness, broil for the last 1–2 minutes of baking.
  • Substitute Swiss with Gruyère or provolone for a flavor twist.
  • Serve with a creamy mustard or white sauce for extra richness.
