- 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 3 large apples (such as Granny Smith), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Boil sweet potato slices in a large pot of water until just tender, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a large bowl, gently toss apple slices with cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Layer half of the sweet potatoes in the prepared baking dish, followed by half of the apples. Repeat the layers.
- In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar, granulated sugar, melted butter, and vanilla extract until combined.
- Pour the sugar-butter mixture evenly over the sweet potatoes and apples.
- Sprinkle chopped pecans on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until bubbly and lightly golden.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for more flavor depth.
- For added richness, sprinkle mini marshmallows on top during the last 5 minutes of baking.
- Can be made a day ahead and reheated before serving.
- Add a pinch of ginger for an extra warming spice.
