Description

This Sweet and Spicy Chicken recipe features tender chicken pieces glazed in a sticky, flavorful sauce made with honey, soy sauce, garlic, and a touch of heat. Perfect for a quick and delicious dinner.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (slurry)
  • Chopped green onions and sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add chicken pieces and cook for 5–7 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add honey, soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, ginger (if using), and red pepper flakes. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  4. Add the cornstarch slurry to the sauce, stirring until thickened, about 1–2 minutes.
  5. Return the chicken to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the sauce.
  6. Cook for another 2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the chicken to heat through.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired, and serve hot over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Use chicken thighs for extra juiciness, but breasts work well too.
  • Adjust the spice level by increasing or decreasing the red pepper flakes.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed vegetables or stir-fried greens.
