Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Steak:

  • 1 lb (450 g) flank steak or skirt steak
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Shrimp:

  • 1/2 lb (225 g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Tacos:

  • 8 small flour or corn tortillas, warmed
  • 1 cup (150 g) shredded cabbage or lettuce
  • 1/2 cup (120 g) diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup (60 g) diced red onion
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

For the Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup (120 g) sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

1. Marinate the Steak:

  1. In a small bowl, mix olive oil, garlic, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Rub the mixture evenly over the steak. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or up to 4 hours.

2. Prepare the Shrimp:

  1. In another bowl, toss the shrimp with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne (if using), salt, and pepper. Set aside.

3. Cook the Steak:

  1. Preheat a grill, grill pan, or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the steak for 4–5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness.
  2. Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.

4. Cook the Shrimp:

  1. In the same skillet or on the grill, cook the shrimp for 2–3 minutes per side, until pink and opaque.

5. Make the Sauce:

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the sour cream, lime juice, hot sauce (if using), and a pinch of salt. Adjust seasoning to taste.

6. Assemble the Tacos:

  1. Fill each tortilla with slices of steak, shrimp, shredded cabbage, tomatoes, red onion, avocado, and cilantro.
  2. Drizzle with the lime sauce and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Substitute steak with chicken or shrimp with scallops for a variation.
  • For extra flavor, grill or char the tortillas before assembling the tacos.
  • Pair with rice and beans or chips and guacamole for a complete meal.
