Scale
- 1 box white or yellow cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box: eggs, oil, water)
- 1 (3 oz) package strawberry Jell-O
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping (like Cool Whip)
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced (for topping)
- Optional: additional strawberries or mint leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare and bake the cake in a 9×13-inch pan according to the instructions on the box. Allow to cool slightly after baking.
- Using a fork or skewer, poke holes all over the top of the cake while it is still warm but not hot.
- In a medium bowl, dissolve the strawberry Jell-O in 1 cup boiling water. Stir in 1/2 cup cold water until fully combined.
- Carefully pour the Jell-O mixture evenly over the cake, allowing it to seep into the holes. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours or until fully set.
- Once chilled and set, spread whipped topping evenly over the cake surface.
- Top with fresh sliced strawberries before serving. Optionally garnish with whole strawberries or mint leaves for presentation.
Notes
- For intensified strawberry flavor, fold pureed or finely chopped strawberries into the Jell-O mixture before pouring.
- Allow ample chilling time to ensure the gelatin fully integrates with the cake structure.
- Best served cold; store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
