Description
This easy homemade Strawberry Jam is bursting with fresh strawberry flavor and just the right amount of sweetness. Made with only a few ingredients, it’s perfect for beginners and doesn’t require any special equipment or pectin. Use it on toast, in desserts, or as a sweet gift from the kitchen!
Ingredients
-
2 pounds fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
-
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
-
2 tablespoons lemon juice
-
1 teaspoon lemon zest (optional, for brightness)
-
Pinch of salt
Instructions
-
Prep the strawberries:
-
Place the strawberries in a large saucepan. Use a potato masher or fork to mash them to your desired consistency (chunky or smooth).
-
-
Cook the jam:
-
Add sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest (if using), and salt to the pot.
-
Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture starts to bubble.
-
Reduce heat slightly and simmer for 20–30 minutes, stirring often, until the jam thickens. To test: place a small spoonful on a cold plate. If it wrinkles when pushed, it’s ready.
-
-
Cool and store:
-
Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes.
-
Pour into clean jars or containers. Let cool completely before sealing and refrigerating.
-
Notes
-
This recipe makes about 2 1/2 cups of jam.
-
Store in the fridge for up to 3 weeks, or freeze for up to 6 months.
-
You can reduce the sugar to taste—just note that it may affect how thick the jam sets.
