Description

This easy homemade Strawberry Jam is bursting with fresh strawberry flavor and just the right amount of sweetness. Made with only a few ingredients, it’s perfect for beginners and doesn’t require any special equipment or pectin. Use it on toast, in desserts, or as a sweet gift from the kitchen!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest (optional, for brightness)

  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Prep the strawberries:

    • Place the strawberries in a large saucepan. Use a potato masher or fork to mash them to your desired consistency (chunky or smooth).

  • Cook the jam:

    • Add sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest (if using), and salt to the pot.

    • Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture starts to bubble.

    • Reduce heat slightly and simmer for 20–30 minutes, stirring often, until the jam thickens. To test: place a small spoonful on a cold plate. If it wrinkles when pushed, it’s ready.

  • Cool and store:

    • Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes.

    • Pour into clean jars or containers. Let cool completely before sealing and refrigerating.

Notes

  • This recipe makes about 2 1/2 cups of jam.

  • Store in the fridge for up to 3 weeks, or freeze for up to 6 months.

  • You can reduce the sugar to taste—just note that it may affect how thick the jam sets.
