  • 1/2 cup onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1-inch ginger (grated)
  • 1/4 cup green onions or cilantro (chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil (optional, for extra flavor)
Veggie Momo Filling:
  • 1 cup cabbage (finely shredded)
  • 1/2 cup carrots (grated)
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms or tofu (finely chopped, optional)
  • 1/2 cup onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1-inch ginger (grated)
  • 1/4 cup green onions or cilantro (chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.
  2. Slowly add water, kneading until a smooth, elastic dough forms.
  3. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.

Step 2: Prepare the Filling

  1. In a bowl, mix all filling ingredients together.
  2. Stir well until combined. Let sit for 10 minutes to absorb flavors.

Step 3: Shape the Momos

  1. Divide dough into small balls (about 1-inch each).
  2. Roll each ball into a thin, 3-inch circle.
  3. Place 1 tbsp of filling in the center.
  4. Fold into a half-moon or pleated round shape, sealing the edges tightly.

Step 4: Steam the Momos

  1. Grease a steamer basket lightly with oil or line with parchment paper.
  2. Arrange momos in a single layer, not touching each other.
  3. Steam over medium heat for 10-12 minutes, until the wrappers are translucent and firm.

Step 5: Serve & Enjoy!

  • Serve hot with spicy tomato chutney, soy sauce, or chili oil.

Spicy Tomato Chutney (Optional but Delicious!) 🍅🔥

  1. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan, sauté 2 tomatoes, 2 cloves garlic, and 1 dried chili until soft.
  2. Blend with 1 tbsp soy sauce, ½ tsp salt, and ¼ tsp sugar for a smooth chutney.

Notes

  • Extra Juicy? Add 1 tbsp water or chicken broth to the filling.
  • No Steamer? Use a colander over boiling water or pan-fry for crispy momos!
  • Make Ahead: Freeze uncooked momos for up to 1 month. Steam directly from frozen.
