- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 1/2 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough or 1 batch prepared cornbread batter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef, onion, and bell pepper over medium heat until beef is browned and vegetables are soft. Drain excess fat.
- Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
- Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Pour the meat mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top.
- Arrange biscuit dough or pour cornbread batter evenly over the top of the meat mixture.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the biscuit topping is golden and cooked through.
- Let sit for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
Notes
- Use ground turkey for a lighter version.
