Description

Savory Golden Onion Butter Jasmine Rice is a fragrant and flavorful side dish made by caramelizing onions in butter until golden and infusing them into fluffy jasmine rice. It’s a simple yet rich complement to a variety of main dishes.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup jasmine rice
  • 1 3/4 cups water or chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric (optional for golden color)
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh parsley or chives for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  3. Add chopped onion and cook, stirring frequently, for 8–10 minutes until soft and golden brown.
  4. Stir in turmeric (if using) and cook for 30 seconds more.
  5. Add the rinsed rice and stir to coat in the onion butter mixture.
  6. Pour in water or broth and add salt to taste. Bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
  8. Remove from heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley or chives if desired.

  • Use broth instead of water for added depth of flavor.
  • Turmeric adds color and mild earthiness but is optional.
