- 1 cup jasmine rice
- 1 3/4 cups water or chicken broth
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp turmeric (optional for golden color)
- Salt to taste
- Fresh parsley or chives for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and cook, stirring frequently, for 8–10 minutes until soft and golden brown.
- Stir in turmeric (if using) and cook for 30 seconds more.
- Add the rinsed rice and stir to coat in the onion butter mixture.
- Pour in water or broth and add salt to taste. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving.
- Garnish with fresh parsley or chives if desired.
Notes
- Use broth instead of water for added depth of flavor.
- Turmeric adds color and mild earthiness but is optional.
