Description

This dry rub for ribs in the oven is a perfect blend of sweet, smoky, and savory spices that enhances the flavor of pork ribs, creating a delicious bark and tender meat when baked low and slow.


Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine all spices and mix well.
  2. Pat ribs dry with paper towels and remove the silver skin from the back if not already done.
  3. Generously rub the spice mixture over both sides of the ribs, pressing it in to coat evenly.
  4. Let the ribs sit at room temperature for 30 minutes or refrigerate for up to 8 hours to marinate.
  5. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C). Wrap ribs tightly in foil and place on a baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until ribs are tender. Optionally, unwrap and broil for 3–5 minutes to caramelize the rub.

Notes

  • Store extra rub in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
  • Great on pork, but also works well with chicken or beef.
  • For extra flavor, brush with barbecue sauce during the last few minutes of cooking.
