Description

Red, White, and Blue Potato Chips are a patriotic and visually striking snack made from red, white, and blue potatoes, thinly sliced and fried or baked to crispy perfection. Perfect for festive gatherings or a colorful appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium red potato
  • 1 medium white potato (like Yukon Gold or Russet)
  • 1 medium blue or purple potato
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil (for baking)
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: garlic powder, paprika, or your favorite seasoning blend

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) or heat oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C) if frying.
  2. Wash and scrub potatoes well. Leave the skin on for color and texture.
  3. Using a mandoline or sharp knife, slice potatoes very thinly (about 1/8 inch or thinner).
  4. If baking, toss the slices in olive oil and lay them in a single layer on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  5. Bake for 15–20 minutes, flipping halfway, until crispy and golden. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
  6. If frying, work in small batches to fry slices for 2–3 minutes until golden and crisp. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Sprinkle with salt and additional seasonings while warm.
  8. Let cool and serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.

Notes

  • Soaking potato slices in cold water for 30 minutes before baking or frying helps remove excess starch and results in crispier chips.
  • Use a mix of red, white, and blue potatoes for a festive, patriotic presentation.
  • Serve with dips like sour cream and chive or spicy aioli.
