Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups whole milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (for extra richness)
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring (or natural beet powder)
  • Whipped cream, for topping

Instructions

Step 1: Heat the Milk & Cream

Step 2: Melt the Chocolate

  1. Add chocolate chips, cocoa powder, and sugar, whisking continuously until fully melted and smooth.

Step 3: Add Flavor & Color

  1. Stir in vanilla extract and red food coloring, mixing until the color is evenly distributed.

Step 4: Serve & Garnish

  2. Garnish with chocolate shavings or a drizzle of chocolate syrup.

Notes

  • Want it extra rich? Use half-and-half instead of milk.
  • Dairy-Free Option: Substitute almond or oat milk and use dairy-free chocolate.
  • Make it boozy: Add a splash of Baileys, Kahlua, or peppermint schnapps.
