Ingredients
-
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
-
1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F)
-
1 tablespoon sugar
-
1 tablespoon olive oil
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
-
Add olive oil, salt, and 3 ½ cups of flour. Mix with a wooden spoon or dough hook until a shaggy dough forms.
-
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Knead for 6–8 minutes, adding more flour as needed, until dough is smooth and elastic.
-
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 ½ hours, or until doubled in size.
-
Punch down the dough and divide if making more than one pizza.
-
Roll out to desired thickness on a floured surface. Add toppings and bake at 475°F (245°C) for 12–15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and crisp.
Notes
-
This recipe makes enough dough for two 12-inch pizzas.
-
You can freeze the dough after the first rise—just wrap tightly and store up to 3 months.
-
For extra flavor, let the dough rise in the fridge overnight.
