Description

This Philly Steak & Cheese Skillet is a quick and delicious one-pan meal inspired by the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. It features tender beef, sautéed peppers and onions, and melty provolone cheese—all served in a skillet without the bread, making it a great low-carb option!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb thinly sliced ribeye steak (or sirloin), cut into strips
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 68 slices provolone cheese
  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak:

    • Season the sliced steak with a pinch of salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Add steak to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until browned.
    • Remove steak from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Cook the Vegetables:

    • In the same skillet, add butter, onions, and bell peppers.
    • Sauté for 4-5 minutes until softened.
    • Add mushrooms (if using) and cook until tender.
    • Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  3. Combine and Season:

    • Return the steak to the skillet with the vegetables.
    • Add Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and mix well.
    • Cook for 1-2 minutes to heat through and blend flavors.
  4. Add the Cheese:

    • Reduce heat to low.
    • Lay provolone cheese slices evenly over the steak and vegetables.
    • Cover with a lid for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  5. Serve:

    • Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
    • Serve hot as is or with rolls for a classic Philly cheesesteak experience.
