Scale
- 1 lb ribeye steak, very thinly sliced
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 4 slices provolone, Cheez Whiz, or American cheese
- 4 hoagie rolls
Instructions
- Place steak in freezer for 30 minutes to make slicing easier. Thinly slice against the grain.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions and peppers until soft and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from pan.
- Add remaining oil to pan. Cook steak slices over medium-high heat until browned, about 2-3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Return vegetables to pan and stir to combine with steak. Divide mixture into four portions in the skillet.
- Place cheese slices on top of each portion and let melt.
- Toast hoagie rolls if desired. Scoop a portion of meat and cheese into each roll. Serve hot.
Notes
- Freezing steak briefly helps in slicing it thinly for the best texture.
- Cheez Whiz is traditional, but provolone or American cheese are great alternatives.
- Customize with mushrooms or hot peppers for added flavor.
- Serve with fries or chips for a complete meal.
