Description

Classic Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches featuring thinly sliced steak, sautéed onions, and melted cheese served in a hoagie roll. A savory and satisfying sandwich that’s perfect for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ribeye steak, very thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices provolone, Cheez Whiz, or American cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls

Instructions

  1. Place steak in freezer for 30 minutes to make slicing easier. Thinly slice against the grain.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions and peppers until soft and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from pan.
  3. Add remaining oil to pan. Cook steak slices over medium-high heat until browned, about 2-3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Return vegetables to pan and stir to combine with steak. Divide mixture into four portions in the skillet.
  5. Place cheese slices on top of each portion and let melt.
  6. Toast hoagie rolls if desired. Scoop a portion of meat and cheese into each roll. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Freezing steak briefly helps in slicing it thinly for the best texture.
  • Cheez Whiz is traditional, but provolone or American cheese are great alternatives.
  • Customize with mushrooms or hot peppers for added flavor.
  • Serve with fries or chips for a complete meal.
