These perfect chocolate chip cookies are soft, chewy, and loaded with gooey chocolate chips—just like grandma used to make.

- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed light-brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, whisk together flour and baking soda; set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat butter and both sugars until light and fluffy. Add salt, vanilla, and eggs; mix until well combined.
- Gradually add flour mixture, mixing just until incorporated. Stir in chocolate chips.
- Drop dough by rounded tablespoons onto prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
- Bake until cookies are golden around the edges but still soft in the center, 10 to 12 minutes.
- Remove from oven, and let cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes. Transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Notes
- Use a mix of semisweet and milk chocolate chips for depth of flavor.
- Chill the dough for 30 minutes for thicker cookies.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
