Instructions
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and place the cubed bread evenly inside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until fully combined.
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes, gently pressing down to ensure all pieces are soaked.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the casserole from the refrigerator while the oven preheats.
- Sprinkle chopped pecans over the top if using.
- Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, or until the casserole is set and the top is golden brown.
- Let cool for 5-10 minutes before dusting with powdered sugar and serving with maple syrup.
