- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 (24 oz) jar marinara or pasta sauce
- 3 cups water or low-sodium broth
- 12 oz spaghetti, broken in half
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add diced onion and sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds more.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Pour in marinara sauce and water or broth. Stir in oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Add spaghetti, making sure it’s submerged in liquid. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer.
- Cook uncovered for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender and sauce is slightly thickened.
- Stir in Parmesan cheese if using. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve hot.
