Description

This Nutella puff pastry star wreath is a show-stopping dessert with layers of flaky puff pastry and rich Nutella, shaped into a star. It’s easy to make and perfect for sharing with friends and family.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 sheets of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 1/2 cup (120 g) Nutella or any chocolate-hazelnut spread
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

Prepare the Puff Pastry:

  1. Preheat the oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the pastry:
    • Roll out one puff pastry sheet on a floured surface to form a 10–12-inch (25–30 cm) circle. Use a round plate or bowl as a guide to cut a neat circle. Repeat with the second sheet.

Assemble the Star:

  1. Layer with Nutella:
    • Place one circle of puff pastry on the prepared baking sheet. Spread Nutella evenly across the surface, leaving a 1-inch (2.5 cm) border around the edges.
  2. Add the second layer:
    • Place the second puff pastry circle on top, aligning the edges. Gently press the edges to seal.

Shape the Star:

  1. Mark the center:
    • Place a small glass or bowl (about 2 inches/5 cm in diameter) in the center of the circle. Do not press too hard.
  2. Cut the star rays:
    • Using a sharp knife, cut the pastry into 16 equal strips from the edge of the glass to the outer edge of the circle.
  3. Twist the strips:
    • Take two adjacent strips and twist them away from each other two to three times. Pinch the ends together to form a point. Repeat with the remaining strips to create a star shape.

Bake the Wreath:

  1. Brush with egg wash:
    • Beat the egg in a small bowl and lightly brush it over the entire pastry for a golden finish.
  2. Bake:
    • Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  3. Cool and decorate:
    • Let the star cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar, if desired, before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle chopped hazelnuts over the Nutella before layering the second pastry sheet.
  • Serve with a side of fresh fruit or whipped cream for a festive touch.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
