Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz (225 g) semi-sweet or dark chocolate, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons Kahlúa (or other coffee liqueur)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
For coating:
- 1/4 cup (30 g) cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup (30 g) finely chopped nuts (optional, like almonds, hazelnuts, or pecans)
- 1/4 cup (30 g) powdered sugar (optional)
Instructions
1. Make the ganache
- Place the chopped chocolate in a medium heatproof bowl.
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just starts to simmer. Do not boil.
- Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for 1–2 minutes.
- Stir gently until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
2. Add flavorings
- Stir in the Kahlúa, vanilla extract, and softened butter until fully incorporated.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until the ganache is firm enough to scoop.
3. Shape the truffles
- Use a small cookie scoop or a teaspoon to portion out the ganache.
- Roll each portion into a ball using your hands. (Tip: Lightly dust your hands with cocoa powder to prevent sticking.)
4. Coat the truffles
- Roll the truffles in your choice of cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or powdered sugar to coat them.
- Place the coated truffles on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
5. Chill and serve
- Refrigerate the truffles for another 30 minutes to firm up before serving. Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to enjoy.
Notes
- Storage: Truffles can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- Freezing: Freeze truffles in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before serving.
- Flavor variation: Substitute Kahlúa with Baileys, Grand Marnier, or rum for a different flavor profile.
