Description
Monte Cristo Casserole is a baked version of the classic sandwich featuring layers of ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese between slices of bread, soaked in a savory custard and baked until golden, then dusted with powdered sugar and served with jam.

- 8 slices white bread
- 6 slices deli ham
- 6 slices deli turkey
- 6 slices Swiss cheese
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
- Raspberry or strawberry jam, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Layer 4 slices of bread on the bottom of the dish. Top with ham, turkey, cheese, then remaining bread slices.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper.
- Pour egg mixture evenly over the bread layers. Press gently to help bread absorb the custard.
- Brush melted butter over the top layer of bread.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 10-15 minutes until top is golden and center is set.
- Let cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with jam on the side.
Notes
- Can be assembled the night before and baked in the morning.
- Use challah or brioche bread for a richer flavor.
- Serve with a side salad or fruit for a complete meal.
