Mexican Shrimp Cocktail, or Cóctel de Camarones, is a refreshing and zesty dish made with cooked shrimp, tangy tomato sauce, and crisp vegetables, served chilled for a perfect appetizer or light meal.

- 1 pound cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup clam juice or tomato juice
- 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce (like Valentina or Tabasco)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup red onion, finely diced
- 1/2 cup cucumber, peeled and diced
- 1/2 cup tomato, diced
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 avocado, diced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Tortilla chips or saltine crackers, for serving
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ketchup, clam juice (or tomato juice), lime juice, hot sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well.
- Stir in red onion, cucumber, tomato, and cilantro.
- Add the cooked shrimp and gently toss to coat with the sauce.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Just before serving, gently fold in the diced avocado.
- Serve in glasses or bowls with tortilla chips or crackers on the side.
Notes
- Use small to medium shrimp for easier eating with a spoon.
- Adjust spice level by increasing or decreasing the hot sauce.
- Best served chilled for optimal flavor.
