- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups (155 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (175 g) chocolate chips or chunks (plus extra for topping, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and line an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang for easy removal.
- Make the Dough:
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate chips or chunks.
- Assemble:
- Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan. If desired, sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top.
- Bake:
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is just set. (Do not overbake for gooey bars!)
- Cool and Serve:
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before lifting them out using the parchment paper. Cut into squares and serve warm or at room temperature.
