Description

July Cookies are festive, colorful sugar cookies decorated in red, white, and blue to celebrate Independence Day. These buttery cookies are perfect for picnics, barbecues, and holiday gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • Red and blue food coloring
  • Patriotic sprinkles or sanding sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract if using.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until fully combined.
  6. Divide dough into three portions. Leave one plain, color one red, and one blue using food coloring.
  7. Take small pieces of each colored dough and gently swirl together. Roll into balls and flatten slightly on the baking sheet.
  8. Decorate with patriotic sprinkles or sanding sugar.
  9. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes before transferring to wire racks.

  • Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can help with shaping.
