Description

Hwachae is a traditional Korean fruit punch made with a variety of fresh fruits and sweetened beverages, often served chilled as a refreshing summertime treat.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups watermelon, balled or cubed
  • 1 cup strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup grapes, halved
  • 1 cup Korean melon or cantaloupe, balled or cubed
  • 1 can (12 oz) Sprite or Korean honey citrus drink
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon honey or sugar (optional)
  • Ice cubes (as needed)
  • Pine nuts for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare all fruits by washing, peeling, and cutting into bite-sized pieces or balls.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the fruits evenly.
  3. Pour in the Sprite or Korean honey citrus drink and water.
  4. Add honey or sugar if additional sweetness is desired. Stir well.
  5. Add ice cubes to chill or refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving.
  6. Garnish with pine nuts if desired and serve cold.

Notes

  • You can use any seasonal fruits such as kiwi, pear, or blueberries.
  • Adjust sweetness according to the ripeness of your fruits.
  • For a traditional touch, use omija tea or sikhye instead of soda.
