Description
A classic meat-based hot dog sauce that’s savory, slightly sweet, and perfectly spiced—ideal for topping your favorite hot dogs.

- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 4–5 minutes.
- Stir in garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 6–8 minutes.
- Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute.
- Add ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, chili powder, and smoked paprika. Mix well.
- Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10–15 minutes until thickened.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm over hot dogs.
Notes
- Can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 5 days.
- Freezes well for up to 3 months in airtight containers.
- Add a pinch of cayenne for extra heat.
- Try it on burgers, fries, or baked potatoes too.
