Description

These honey mustard chicken sausage rolls are a twist on the classic pastry snack. Juicy chicken filling with the perfect balance of tangy mustard and sweet honey, all wrapped in golden, flaky puff pastry. Perfect as a party appetizer, lunchbox treat, or snack!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb (500g) ground chicken
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (use gluten-free if needed)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, Dijon mustard, honey, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until evenly combined.
  3. Assemble the Sausage Rolls:
    • Lay a puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut it in half lengthwise to create two long rectangles.
    • Divide the chicken mixture into four portions. Shape one portion into a long log and place it along the center of one pastry rectangle.
    • Fold one side of the pastry over the filling, then roll to seal the edges. Press the seam gently with your fingers and place seam-side down on the baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining pastry and filling.
  4. Cut and Decorate:
    • Cut each log into smaller pieces (about 2–3 inches long). Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds, if desired.
  5. Bake the Rolls:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed, and the filling is cooked through.
  6. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Let the sausage rolls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm with a side of honey mustard dipping sauce or ketchup.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add chopped fresh herbs like parsley or thyme to the chicken mixture.
  • These rolls freeze well—assemble them and freeze before baking. Cook from frozen by adding 5–7 minutes to the baking time.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for best results.
