Scale
- 1 lb (500g) ground chicken
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (use gluten-free if needed)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, lightly beaten (for egg wash)
- Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, Dijon mustard, honey, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until evenly combined.
- Assemble the Sausage Rolls:
- Lay a puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut it in half lengthwise to create two long rectangles.
- Divide the chicken mixture into four portions. Shape one portion into a long log and place it along the center of one pastry rectangle.
- Fold one side of the pastry over the filling, then roll to seal the edges. Press the seam gently with your fingers and place seam-side down on the baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining pastry and filling.
- Cut and Decorate:
- Cut each log into smaller pieces (about 2–3 inches long). Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds, if desired.
- Bake the Rolls:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed, and the filling is cooked through.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Let the sausage rolls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm with a side of honey mustard dipping sauce or ketchup.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add chopped fresh herbs like parsley or thyme to the chicken mixture.
- These rolls freeze well—assemble them and freeze before baking. Cook from frozen by adding 5–7 minutes to the baking time.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for best results.
