Units
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts (about 1 lb / 450g)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (optional, for a light coating)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
For the Honey Garlic Sauce:
- 1/4 cup (60ml) honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup (60ml) chicken broth or water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
For Garnish:
- Sesame seeds
- Sliced green onions
Instructions
Prepare the Chicken:
- Pat the chicken dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper.
- If desired, lightly coat the chicken in flour for a crispier texture.
2. Sear the Chicken:
- Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the chicken and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F / 74°C). Remove the chicken and set aside.
3. Make the Sauce:
- In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir in the honey, soy sauce, vinegar, and chicken broth. Bring to a simmer.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix the cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water and stir it into the sauce. Simmer until the sauce thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
4. Combine and Serve:
- Return the chicken to the skillet, spooning the sauce over it to coat. Simmer for 2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
5. Serve:
Serve warm over steamed rice, noodles, or alongside roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
Notes
- Substitute chicken with shrimp, tofu, or salmon for a variation.
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less honey to suit your taste.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop or microwave.
