Description

Homemade Tartar Sauce is a creamy, tangy condiment made with mayonnaise, pickles, lemon juice, and seasonings—perfect for pairing with seafood dishes like fish and chips or crab cakes.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped dill pickles or relish
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped capers (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, chopped pickles, lemon juice, capers (if using), Dijon mustard, and garlic powder.
  2. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.
  5. Stir before serving and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • Use fresh lemon juice for the best flavor.
  • For a sweeter version, use sweet pickle relish instead of dill.
  • Great as a dip for fries, onion rings, or spread on fish sandwiches.
