Description

This Cherry Amaretto Jam is a thick, flavorful jam made with fresh cherries, sugar, and a splash of amaretto liqueur. It’s perfect for spreading on toast, biscuits, or pairing with cheese. Plus, it makes a beautiful homemade gift!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups pitted fresh or frozen cherries (dark sweet or tart)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice (for brightness and preservation)
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 cup amaretto liqueur
  • 1 package (1.75 oz) powdered pectin (or 3 tablespoons)

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Cherries

  1. If using fresh cherries, pit and chop them. If using frozen cherries, let them thaw and drain excess liquid.

Step 2: Cook the Jam

  1. In a large saucepan, combine cherries, sugar, and lemon juice over medium heat.
  2. Stir and bring to a gentle boil, mashing the cherries slightly with a spoon.
  3. Once the sugar has dissolved and the cherries start breaking down (about 10 minutes), stir in pectin.

Step 3: Add Flavor

  1. Bring the mixture to a full rolling boil and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in amaretto and almond extract.

Step 4: Jar & Store

  1. Ladle the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving ¼ inch of headspace.
  2. Wipe rims, seal with lids, and process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes (if canning).
  3. If not canning, let cool and refrigerate for up to 3 weeks, or freeze for up to 6 months.

Notes

  • Want a thicker jam? Use extra pectin or let it simmer longer before adding amaretto.
  • For a smoother jam, blend the cherries before cooking.
  • Pairs well with: Brie, goat cheese, croissants, or even drizzled over vanilla ice cream!
