Description

This Hawaiian grilled cheese is a fun and flavorful take on the traditional sandwich. It’s loaded with melty cheese, sweet pineapple, savory ham, and a touch of tangy BBQ sauce—all toasted between golden, buttery slices of bread. Perfect for lunch, dinner, or a quick snack!

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread (sourdough or white sandwich bread work great)

  • 2 tbsp butter, softened

  • 4 slices Swiss cheese or mozzarella

  • 4 slices deli ham (or Canadian bacon)

  • 4 pineapple rings (fresh or canned, drained)

  • 2 tbsp BBQ sauce (optional but tasty)

Instructions

  • Preheat Skillet: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.

  • Butter the Bread: Spread softened butter on one side of each slice of bread.

  • Assemble the Sandwich: Place 1 slice of bread, butter side down, on the skillet. Layer with 1 slice of cheese, 2 slices of ham, 2 pineapple rings, a drizzle of BBQ sauce (if using), and another slice of cheese. Top with another slice of bread, butter side up.

  • Grill: Cook for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing slightly with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

  • Serve: Slice in half and enjoy warm.

Notes

  • Use fresh pineapple for a brighter, less sweet flavor.

  • Try Hawaiian sweet bread for extra island vibes.

  • Add red onion or jalapeños for a kick.

  • Easily doubled to serve a crowd.
