Description

Gyeran Bap is a quick and cozy Korean comfort dish made with steamed rice, fried egg, and a drizzle of soy sauce and sesame oil. It’s warm, savory, and perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a late-night meal. You can customize it with seaweed, green onions, or even kimchi for extra flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cooked short-grain white rice (hot)

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce (or to taste)

  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil

  • 1 teaspoon neutral oil (for frying)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Optional toppings:

    • Roasted seaweed (gim), crumbled

    • Sliced green onions

    • Toasted sesame seeds

    • Kimchi on the side

Instructions

  1. Heat the neutral oil in a small pan over medium heat.

  2. Crack the egg into the pan and fry until the white is set and the yolk is still runny (or cook to your preference).

  3. In a serving bowl, add the hot rice.

  4. Place the fried egg on top of the rice.

  5. Drizzle soy sauce and sesame oil over the top.

  6. Season with a little salt and pepper.

  7. Add optional toppings like seaweed, green onions, or sesame seeds.

  8. Mix everything together before eating and enjoy!

Notes

  • This dish is super customizable. Try it with a soft-boiled or scrambled egg.

  • For a spicy kick, add a spoonful of gochujang or a few drops of sesame chili oil.

  • Use freshly cooked rice or warm up leftover rice.

  • Perfect for a quick meal with minimal ingredients.
