Description

These Ground Turkey Teriyaki Rice Bowls are a flavorful and easy dinner idea that comes together in under 30 minutes. Juicy ground turkey is coated in a sweet and savory homemade teriyaki sauce, then served over fluffy rice with your favorite veggies. It’s a healthier take on takeout that the whole family will love!

Ingredients

For the turkey:

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (or olive oil)

  • 1 lb ground turkey

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated (or 1/2 tsp ground ginger)

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the teriyaki sauce:

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons honey

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  • 3/4 cup water

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)

For serving:

  • 2 cups cooked white or brown rice

  • 1 cup steamed broccoli

  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots

  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, cornstarch, water, and brown sugar until smooth. Set aside.

  2. Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  3. Add ground turkey, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 6–8 minutes.

  4. Add garlic, ginger, and black pepper. Stir and cook for another minute.

  5. Pour in the teriyaki sauce and stir well. Let it simmer for 3–5 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the turkey.

  6. Serve over warm rice with steamed broccoli and shredded carrots.

  7. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

  • Use jasmine or brown rice for more flavor.

  • Swap the turkey for ground chicken or beef if you’d like.

  • Add bell peppers or snap peas for extra crunch and color.

  • Make it spicy by adding a dash of sriracha or red pepper flakes to the sauce.
