- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp taco seasoning
- 1/4 cup tomato sauce or salsa
- 1 can (15 oz) refried beans
- 8 tostada shells
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
- 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup sour cream (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro (optional)
- Hot sauce or jalapeño slices (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook for 2–3 minutes until soft.
- Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in taco seasoning and tomato sauce or salsa. Simmer for 3–5 minutes. Set aside.
- Heat refried beans in a small saucepan until warm and spreadable.
- Warm tostada shells if desired, then spread a layer of refried beans on each shell.
- Top with ground beef, lettuce, cheese, diced tomatoes, and any additional toppings.
- Serve immediately for the crispiest texture.
Notes
- For added flavor, mix a bit of lime juice into the sour cream before drizzling.
- You can use ground turkey or chicken as a substitute for beef.
- Make your own tostada shells by baking or frying corn tortillas.
