A savory and comforting ground beef meat pie made with a flaky pastry crust, filled with seasoned ground beef, vegetables, and herbs, perfect for a hearty meal.

- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, finely diced
- 1/2 cup frozen peas
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 package (14 oz) refrigerated pie crusts or homemade pie dough
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
- Stir in carrot and cook for 3–4 minutes. Add tomato paste, thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Sprinkle in the flour, stir, then pour in the beef broth. Cook for 5 minutes until thickened. Stir in peas and remove from heat.
- Roll out one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish. Fill with the beef mixture.
- Cover with the second crust, trim excess, and crimp the edges. Cut slits in the top to vent steam.
- Brush the top crust with beaten egg.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can add diced potatoes for a heartier filling.
- Make mini meat pies using a muffin tin for individual servings.
- Freezes well before or after baking.
