Description

Grinch Popcorn is a festive, sweet-and-salty treat inspired by the classic holiday story. This bright green, chocolate-coated popcorn is sprinkled with red heart candies and perfect for holiday movie nights or gifting!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 10 cups popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels)
  • 1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips or candy melts
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil or vegetable shortening (for melting)
  • Green food coloring (gel or liquid)
  • Red heart sprinkles or candies
  • 1/2 cup mini marshmallows (optional)
  • 1/2 cup red and green M&Ms (optional, for added color)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Popcorn:

    • Pop the popcorn and remove any unpopped kernels. Spread the popcorn out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper.
  • Melt the Chocolate:

    • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips (or candy melts) and coconut oil. Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
  • Add Food Coloring:

    • Stir in a few drops of green food coloring until you reach your desired “Grinch green” color.
  • Coat the Popcorn:

    • Drizzle the melted green chocolate over the popcorn. Use a spatula or your hands (wear gloves if preferred) to toss and coat the popcorn evenly.
  • Add Toppings:

    • Immediately sprinkle the popcorn with red heart sprinkles, mini marshmallows, and M&Ms. Gently press the toppings into the chocolate-coated popcorn so they stick.
  • Set and Serve:

    • Let the popcorn sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes to allow the chocolate to harden. Once set, break into clusters and enjoy!

Notes

  • Customize: Swap out M&Ms for other festive candies or use different sprinkles.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Make it extra festive: Drizzle with red candy melts or add edible glitter for a sparkling effect.
