Description

Inspired by the classic Dr. Seuss story, these Grinch Cookies are soft, chewy, and bright green with a sweet red heart in the center. Perfect for holiday baking, they’re sure to steal the show (and maybe your heart)!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 oz/432g) vanilla cake mix
  • 1/3 cup (75ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon green gel food coloring (or a few drops liquid food coloring)
  • 24 red heart sprinkles or candies (for decoration)
  • 1/2 cup (60g) powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  2. Make the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix until a soft dough forms.
    • Add the green food coloring and mix until the dough is evenly colored. Adjust the amount of food coloring to achieve your desired Grinch-green hue.
  3. Shape the Cookies:
    • Scoop tablespoons of dough and roll them into balls. Roll each ball in powdered sugar until fully coated.
    • Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  4. Add the Heart:
    • Gently press a red heart sprinkle or candy into the center of each dough ball.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the cookies are set but still soft. Avoid overbaking to keep them chewy.
    • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Serve and Enjoy:
    • These cookies are perfect for holiday gatherings, gift exchanges, or as a fun treat for kids.

Notes

  • For a homemade version, replace the cake mix with a simple sugar cookie dough.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • Use mini red candies or pipe red icing for the heart if heart sprinkles aren’t available.
