- 1 cup warm water (110°F or 45°C)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups all-purpose or bread flour (plus extra for kneading)
Instructions
1. Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar.
- Stir gently and let sit for 5-10 minutes, until foamy (this means the yeast is active).
2. Make the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine melted butter, salt, and yeast mixture.
- Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a dough forms.
3. Knead the Dough:
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
4. Shape & Second Rise:
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
- Place in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan, cover, and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
5. Bake the Bread:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
6. Cool & Serve:
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
- Slice and enjoy with butter, honey, or jam!
Notes
- Make it Whole Wheat: Swap 1 cup of flour for whole wheat flour.
