Description

Garlic Shrimp Gratin is a creamy, cheesy, and garlicky seafood dish baked to golden perfection. This decadent recipe is easy to make and perfect for dinner parties or a special date night meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) dry white wine (optional)
  • 1/4 cup (25 g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup (25 g) breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (plus extra for garnish)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Step 2: Prepare the shrimp

  1. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and season with salt and black pepper.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 1-2 minutes per side, until just pink and slightly undercooked. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3: Make the garlic cream sauce

  1. In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter and the minced garlic. Sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  2. Stir in the heavy cream and white wine (if using), and simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the Parmesan cheese, lemon juice, and parsley.

Step 4: Assemble the gratin

  1. Arrange the shrimp in a single layer in a small baking dish or ovenproof skillet. Pour the garlic cream sauce evenly over the shrimp.
  2. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the top, followed by the breadcrumbs.

Step 5: Bake the gratin

  1. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown. For an extra crispy topping, broil for 1-2 minutes at the end.

Step 6: Garnish and serve

  1. Garnish with additional parsley and serve immediately with crusty bread, rice, or a side salad.

Notes

  • Seafood options: Substitute shrimp with scallops or lobster for variety.
  • Make-ahead: Prepare the dish up to the baking step and refrigerate for up to 4 hours. Bake when ready to serve.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in the oven or microwave.
