Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg
- For Topping:
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add melted butter, egg, salt, and 2 1/2 cups of flour. Mix until a soft dough forms, adding more flour as needed.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Roll into balls and place in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish or on a baking sheet.
- Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Mix melted butter with garlic for topping.
- Brush rolls with garlic butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until golden brown. Brush with more garlic butter and sprinkle with parsley if desired before serving.
Notes
- Use fresh garlic for the best flavor, but garlic powder can be substituted.
- Make ahead: rolls can be shaped and refrigerated before second rise; let come to room temperature before baking.
- Leftovers can be reheated in the oven or microwave.
