Ingredients
Scale
For the rolls:
- 500 g (4 cups) all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (7 g or 2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 250 ml (1 cup) warm milk
- 60 ml (1/4 cup) warm water
- 60 g (4 tbsp) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
For the garlic butter topping:
- 60 g (4 tbsp) unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese (optional, for sprinkling)
Instructions
1. Prepare the dough
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, warm milk, softened butter, and beaten egg. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
2. Shape the rolls
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a ball and place them on a greased or parchment-lined baking tray, spacing them slightly apart.
- Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise again for 30–40 minutes.
3. Preheat the oven
- Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F).
4. Prepare the garlic butter
- In a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter.
- Stir in the minced garlic and parsley.
5. Bake and brush
- Brush the risen rolls generously with half of the garlic butter.
- Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and immediately brush with the remaining garlic butter.
- Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if desired.
6. Serve
- Serve warm, and enjoy these rolls with your favorite pasta, soup, or as a standalone treat.
Notes
- Make-Ahead: The dough can be prepared and refrigerated overnight. Let it come to room temperature before shaping and baking.
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven before serving.
- Variation: Add shredded mozzarella cheese inside each roll for a cheesy garlic bread surprise!
