- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup sliced strawberries
- For Frying:
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- For Garnish (Optional):
- Whipped cream
- Strawberry sauce or fresh strawberries
- Powdered sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Assemble the Sandwiches:
- Spread the cream cheese mixture onto 4 slices of bread.
- Top each slice with a few strawberry slices and cover with the remaining slices of bread to form sandwiches. Press gently to seal the edges.
- Prepare for Frying:
- In a shallow bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, and cinnamon (if using).
- Place the granulated sugar in a separate bowl for coating.
- Fry the Sandwiches:
- Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Test the oil with a small drop of batter—it should sizzle immediately.
- Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides, and carefully place in the hot oil.
- Fry for 1–2 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Coat in Sugar:
- While the sandwiches are still warm, roll them in the granulated sugar until evenly coated.
- Serve:
- Slice the sandwiches in half and serve with whipped cream, fresh strawberries, or a drizzle of strawberry sauce for extra indulgence.
Notes
- For added flavor, mix a little lemon zest into the cream cheese filling.
- Swap strawberries for other berries like blueberries or raspberries for variety.
- These are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven to maintain crispness.
