Description
French Onion Sausage Rolls combine the rich, savory flavors of caramelized onions and seasoned sausage wrapped in golden puff pastry. A perfect appetizer or snack with a gourmet twist.

- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 lb ground pork sausage
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 10-15 minutes until soft and caramelized.
- Add sugar and balsamic vinegar, stir, and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Let cool.
- In a bowl, combine ground sausage, thyme, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cooled onions. Mix well.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cut each puff pastry sheet in half lengthwise. Divide sausage mixture evenly along the center of each strip.
- Roll the pastry over the filling and seal the edges. Place seam side down and cut each roll into 3-4 pieces.
- Place rolls on baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with sesame seeds if using.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and cooked through.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- You can prepare the rolls ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake.
- Serve with mustard or aioli for dipping.
- Use store-bought caramelized onion jam to save time.
