Description

Egg in a Hole is a simple and classic breakfast dish where an egg is cooked in the center of a slice of bread until the whites are set and the yolk is perfectly runny. It’s quick, delicious, and fun to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 slice of bread
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Use a round cutter or glass to cut a hole in the center of the bread slice.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter.
  3. Place the bread slice in the skillet and crack the egg into the hole.
  4. Cook for 2–3 minutes, until the egg white starts to set. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Flip carefully and cook another 1–2 minutes for a runny yolk or longer for a firmer yolk.
  6. Toast the cut-out bread circle in the skillet and serve on the side.

Notes

  • Use thick-cut bread for best results.
  • Try different seasonings like paprika, herbs, or cheese for variation.
  • Perfect served with fruit, bacon, or a side salad.
